While in Detroit, we had a tour of The Parade Company! What a place it is!! There are warehouses filled with all of their parade floats along with a giant workshop. We got to see how they create drawings of the floats, then sculpt the pieces from foam to create characters and details, then cover it and paint it. We saw their costume room, where hundreds of outfits were laid out for cleaning, hanging and organizing, ready for next year.
We were AMAZED… by the large scale of the floats… how many there were and how the people that need to drive them so often can’t SEE out of the floats – it dark and cramped in there.
It takes so much organization and planning to run a parade! They have thousands of volunteers each year helping with every area of the Parade. Not at all like our little town. This was big time!

If you’ll be in Detroit, it’s a great place to stop in and see some magic!
