This month we have been learning about DNA the stuff that makes up all living things and cells.
There are 4 chemicals that bond together in base pairs. Those are: Adenine (A) & Thymine (T) and Guanine (G), Cytosine (C).
Those are the building blocks for making DNA. We made a ‘sweet’ model of a DNA strand to understand this better.
To make your own DNA strand you will need: Twizzlers, colored marshmallows and toothpicks. First, we each had four Twizzlers, 24 tooth picks and had separated the marshmallow by color. We then pushed marshmallows on either end of a toothpick in their pair combinations to create a repeating pattern. After then were all assembled, we poked the ends of the toothpicks into the Twizzlers. To make the strand longer, we connected several assembled ‘ladders’ together with a toothpick. here’s the cool part: They looked like ladders when were were making them and then…… with one twist, they become a model of a DNA strand!!!
This is the video we watched… it was cool, but we didn’t really like the part when the dino ate the puppy…. POOR PUPPY!!!
