Last week we were learning about our immune system. We talked about how it is our body’s protector – keeping us healthy from unwanted bacteria, viruses, parasites & fungi. There are 2 kinds of cells: white blood cells have memory cells and fighting cells. For our activity, we started by grabbing salt, steel wool, magnets a bowl and a clear glass. The glass was supposed to be our body, the salt our cells, the steel wool was the unwanted germs and the magnets were our immune cells.
So! We poured a LOT of salt into the glass. Then we tore up the steel wool and put the fibers into the glass. After that, we put in even MORE SALT then we shook the glass making sure NOT to spill. We threw the magnets in and shook it some more. We noticed that the steel wool had vanished! We poured it out eager to find out where the wool had gone and… all of it was stuck to the magnets! With not a single fiber left, all tidied up! And the body wins again!!! HORRAY! YIPPIE!!!
This is a video we watched that we thought was VERY funny – all about the immune system!
