The Marshmallow Challenge

Over the past several months we have been learning about structures. Mom found this experiment called the “Marshmallow Challenge” where we had 18 minutes, 20 sticks of spaghetti, 1 yard of tape, one yard of string and one marshmallow. The marshmallow needed to be whole and on top of the structure. We had to make the tallest structure we could, using only those materials! This is the website that shares more information about it:

The first thing we did was take three sticks of spaghetti and stuck them into the marshmallow. Then we stood it up and put arms in it so it then could say, “HI!!!”. It was about eight inches tall so we decided to try again to make it taller and taller. The second time we did it, it got much, much, taller! It was much more complex though. This time we used two spaghetti noodles for each leg and attached more noodles to the side so then it would stand better. Just when time was running out we squeezed one last try in. Drum roll please!!! The highest one yet… a very messy 24 inches!!! AND THE CROWD GOES WILD!!!!!!!!!!
