Last season we allowed our compost to completely decompose and this spring we decided rather than plant a new garden, we would spread our compost out and discover what would grow. The only thing we knew for sure is that we would like whatever it was since we put it out there to begin with! As the tiny leaves revealed themselves, we spent quite a bit of time trying to identify what plant we had growing. We ended up with zucchini, 3 kinds of tomatoes, peppers, squash and some absolutely LOVELY pumpkins! We learned how to pollinate the pumpkin flowers and which flowers were male and female.
You too can learn about pollinating at this YouTube address: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_SMlRHCACGk
This season, we are composting with a renewed excitement and wonder what next spring will bring!!
